Protection functions for large scale interconnection

Actually existing network interconnections provide TSO cooperation in the field of frequency control and stability. No further protection functionality is implemented to maintain its own system stability as well as total system stability. Recently occurred large scale blackouts had almost local origin, grew up afterwards in very short time and affected the complete interconnected system at their peak power supply. This demonstrates insistent the necessity of mechanisms for containment of disturbances and protection of power system security, which requires the development of algorithms for quantification of the operational risk and stability assessment; the development of fast and efficient methods for assessing the stability of large transmission systems; the development of methods for certain disconnection interconnected systems in case of imminent stability loss of total interconnection, in order to obtain stability of individual networks. The WP is implemented through three inter-related tasks.
