Objectives
The main objective of this work package is to identify the best technology for the extension and interconnection of EU and Russian systems. This contains next sub-objectives:

exhaustive analysis of AC transmission technology, with regard of combination with FACTS devices

exhaustive analysis of eligibility of thyristor as well as IGBT-based DC transmission technologies for extension and interconnection of large scale power systems

evaluation of the impact of AC and DC interconnections on the stability of interconnected power systems in isolated and interconnected operation

concepts for stability assessment with grid enhancement measures

cost and benefit analysis for relevant interconnections
