Technology for the large scale network interconnection

Description of work

Work package leader: ESI

This WP develops models of important transmission and power flow control devices and integrates them into network model developed in WP1. This is essential for further research work on development of new state estimation, monitoring, control and protection methods for large scale interconnected power systems in packages 3 and 4. Additionally WP2 works out systematic concepts for interconnection of large networks. Therefore it evaluates available technologies for large scale network interconnections on the example of the interconnection of Pan-European and Russian networks. Evaluation and identification of optimal solution will be done through exhaustive analysis of possible transmission technologies and devices as well as their impact on system stability. The cost and benefit evaluation of interconnection concepts will be given.
